Melissa Taylor, the Dallas fashion designer known for her made-to-wear tailoring and sustainable practices, has announced her highly anticipated Dallas fashion show premiere. On the 26th of March, Melissa Taylor will be presenting her new co-ed collection for 2022 in an immersive pop-up adjacent to Fair Park.

Handcrafted and made-to-order, the capsule presents a delicate harmony of structured shapes and graceful drapery.Both menswear and womenswear collections feature traditional British tailoring techniques remixed into modern jackets, coats and trousers. Sharp brutalist silhouettes in wool and denim are offset by liquid hand dyed silk and viscose in the form of Italian style collared shirts and neptunian dresses. The identity of the brand is rooted in a brutalist yet romantic style, driven by the designer’s love of Eastern Europe’s modernist architecture, the dark beauty of gothic literature, and the playfully noir worldview of films like 8 ½ and L’Avventura. The collection will be accented with jewelry handmade from reclaimed precious metals by Brandon Prater, and delicate pearl pieces by Ida Behjat.

Inspired by avant-garde designers, you’ll find nods to Alexander McQueen, Rick Owens, and Yohji Yamamoto, but the aesthetic language she has built over the years is distinct and uniquely her own.

The industrial site will be transformed into an ethereal setting by Producer Dé Randle, Production Designer Isaac Watson, and Lighting Director Michael Gorsky, and with special thanks to Executive Producers Rachel and Michael Perkins. 

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Melissa Taylor is an artist and fashion designer based in Dallas, Texas. She sculpts and hand dyes carefully sourced fabric into dreamy, brooding clothing with a powerful physical presence. Taylor has worked in the fashion industry as a pattern maker, model, runway show producer, production seamstress, and teacher. Before landing in Dallas, she lived in Virginia, Ukraine, Germany, Indiana, and Austin, TX.
